Spina Bifida is a neural tube defect; in mild cases, permanent loss of some sensation or movement occurs. Severe cases include paralysis and varying degrees of loss of bowel and bladder control, and Hydrocephalus (accumulation of fluid in the brain) is a common complication accompanying Spina Bifida. Children born with Spina Bifida face many lifetime health issues and surgeries.
